Ontario’s unions help lift everyone up, whether it’s improving workplaces, fighting for political gains, or advocating for social justice – unions and our members make all the difference. This year we are thrilled to be bringing back the highly sought after Canadian Labour Congress Ontario Summer School and Women’s School!
Labour Education builds solidarity and knowledge, and it creates meaningful bonds that last a lifetime. In these exciting weeks of learning, union members will learn valuable skills in order to continue the fights of today’s workplaces, allowing adults of all backgrounds to learn to defend their rights using proven methods. If your union wants to train the next generation of local activists or expand the skills that today’s leaders and activists already have, the CLC Ontario Summer and Women’s Schools 2023 is here to help our labour movement succeed.

The CLC Ontario Women’s School will be held at McMaster University in Hamilton.
Registration Fees
Includes: accommodation in dorm room, meals, coffee breaks, and class material.
Early Bird Registration Fee – cut-off date May 22, 2023
Single accommodation: $1,800 per student/week
Single accommodation with spouse/partner: $2,175/week
Course and meals only: $900/week
Children (12 years old and under): $350
Children (13-18 years old): $500
Prevention Link Course: $1,800 + $290 additional cost = $2,090
Registration Fee After May 22, 2023 cut- off
Single accommodation: $1850 per student/week
Single accommodation with spouse/partner: $2,225/week
Course and meals only: $950/week
Children (12 years old and under): $350
Children (13-18 years old): $500
Prevention Link Course: $1,800 + $290 additional cost = $2,090
* Please note, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited course availability and in consideration of all students, please do not hold spots. Applicants must have the approval of their union before enrolling. Payment for all fees must be made at the time of registration and can be made via credit card or cheque. To change a registration after it has been submitted please contact the Ontario Region office at ontario@clcctc.ca , cancellations with a full refund will not provided after June 20, 2023.

- On-site Registration is Sunday, July 16 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
- You will not be able to check in to the dorm before you register for the school.
- We will be following all provincial health requirements at the 2023 CLC School. As provincial requirements do change on short notice, we encourage all affiliates to remain up-to-date. Please note that you may be requested to wear a mask at the school, this will be determined closer to the start of the school.
Courses Offered
Transforming Conflict into Union Activism
This course approaches conflict in a novel way. It recognizes that conflict isn’t always negative but that it is the outcome of the conflict that determines whether it is negative or positive. The course will teach participants how to listen to people involved in a conflict, how to get to the root causes of a conflict, and how to coach people involved in a conflict to identify shared interests. Participants will learn how to use those shared interests to help people involved in a conflict find solutions and turn the conflict and shared interests into union activism.
Member Engagement – Member Action
This course is designed for experienced stewards, local union leaders, and union staff who want to transform how members engage with their union and how their union engages with members. This course will train participants on the three-step approach to effective member engagement (Go, Listen, Build) and connect it to a three-step approach for building an active membership (one-on-one communication, taking action on worksite issues, and designing a strategy and plan to win). Each participant will leave the training with a worksite-specific plan for creating an engaged and active membership as well as a series of measurable goals to evaluate outcomes.
Prevention Link Course– Return to Work (Level 4)
This course provides workplace parties with the tools necessary to develop strategies that ensure successful RTW outcomes. Through the exploration of law and evidence-based best practices, participants learn the principles of good return to work practices and the Duty to Accommodate. Legal lessons from precedent setting cases are reviewed. The Canadian and Ontario Human Rights legislation and RTW are examined. All workers are welcome! Workplace leadership encouraged!
